When, Where and How to Utilise Freebies

This month, we’ve been thinking about just how great freebies can be as part of your marketing campaign. In fact, we have even gone so far as to suggest that by offering freebies, you can make money! So, you might be excited to start using this tried and tested method of marketing, but have you thought about when, where and how you can utilise your freebies?

Trade Shows

One of the most obvious examples of a perfect place for freebies is trade shows or exhibitions. Of course, you’ll have your branded promotional exhibition banners to make sure everyone knows exactly who you are, but how will you make sure that they don’t forget you?

Exhibition freebies can ensure that people walking past your stand don’t forget about your brand. So how can you take full advantage of this opportunity?

Firstly, it’s important to know your audience. You are unlikely to use the exact same freebies for business professionals as you would students. So, at a trade show where you will be meeting with professionals, you may want to think about using freebies that professionals will use such as promotional pens, desk accessories such as the NoteStix Midi Combiset and a branded bag to take everything away in!

Freshers Fairs

It should come as no surprise to you that students love freebies! While students are learning to save their pennies wherever they can, a smart and useful freebie can work wonders. Again, it is important that you know your audience and think about the items that students are likely to hang on to and use, giving your branding more visibility.

Of course, items such as pens and notebooks can be very popular, but there are plenty of other items that would be loved by students, from power banks to bottle openers and even something as simple as a reusable water bottle. These sorts of gifts serve a purpose for university students, so they are more likely to continue to use them, giving your logo more exposure.

The freshers fair is the perfect place to give out freebies to students. For one thing, this is your opportunity to introduce your company to new students who may have just moved to the area and may not already be familiar with your brand.

Power Bank

If a festival is likely to attract your target market, this may be something you can take advantage of. Festival-goers always appreciate being offered items such as bottles of water, or even this handy Ponch-O. In this situation, your freebies can be useful for festival-goers, ensuring that they are likely to be used and seen, not just stuffed in the bottom of a bag and forgotten about.

You may see many brands at festivals, often handing out some kind of freebie, so this is the perfect time to get a little creative and think of something that other brands aren’t utilising.

When you are choosing your festival freebies, it’s worth considering the practicality of the item. Anything too large is likely to be too much hassle to carry, and anything breakable is probably not going to survive in many cases!

New Hires

When you take on a new member of staff, you can help them to feel right at home by kitting them out with branded items. Having a starter-pack ready for them will make them feel valued before they even start.

Even just a few items like a branded pen, notebook and water bottle can help to welcome your new hire. You might be wondering how this would benefit you or your brand, but it’s not only customers that are likely to carry branded products around with them, showing off your brand name to the world!

In fact, a happy and valued member of staff is possibly going to be more willing to sport your brand logo when they are out and about, whether it be on their water bottle, their umbrella or even their shopping bags.

Client Meetings

A client meeting is an obvious time to utilise your promotional products. You may already have branded mugs that you serve up brews in, which can send a good and professional message to your client. However, why not go a little further and let your clients or even potential clients away with a freebie that bears your logo?

Again, the simple pen can make a great freebie – you can never have too many pens. However, you don’t have to stop there. If you are trying to bring a potential client on board, a goody bag filled with branded items may be a great idea. Office accessories are a good way to go as they are likely to be used, and with your logo on, the potential client is unlikely to forget about you in a hurry!
