It’s hardly surprising, but in the last week the amount of football related advertising in the UK has dropped significantly. Since England was unceremoniously knocked out of the tournament the football fever has taken somewhat of a down turn and advertisers are keen to downplay their previous support for the England squad. At first glance this may seem to present a problem for businesses who invested a great deal of money into England related promotional products, however all is not lost.

Wimbledon has opened to a media frenzy, and in Britain at least this frenzy is focussed on Andy Murray. The British Number One hope for the tournament has provoked a spike in Wimbledon ticket sales, perhaps showing a shift in interest from the England World Cup squad to the British contender. Given the dismal performance of the England squad so far, this is hardly surprising. But this British contender is Scottish—so if England crash out of the World Cup long before they’re due, what are those looking for a glorious sporting performance from their home nation going to do with all those St George’s flags?
